Main purpose of job:

To assist with management duties and responsibilities in order to grow the business and ensure that the forecourt is running efficiently. You will have assistant management responsibility for the team and will be required to focus the team on exceeding targets.

To lead the team with enthusiasm in order to ensure the safe, secure, efficient and effective operation of all aspects of the store and to demonstrate customer focus by exhibiting a passion for service.

In the Store Manager’s absence you will be responsible for making decisions, guiding and training colleagues and managing the store / shift in line with processes and procedures.

Key tasks and main duties

Key Accountabilities

Finance and Banking

  • Assist with cashing/banking summaries and reports performing all relevant checks
  • Check Lottery pay out with weekly invoices against banking summary
  • Check validity and approval of paid out till receipts
  • Check cash loss with banking summaries and investigate large variances
  • Check for any issues with markdowns, write offs and stock losses
  • Review tank reconciliation report

Health & Safety

  • Responsible for the upkeep and general maintenance of the forecourt for maintenance issues
  • Checking all areas of the site are both secure and free from hazards to prevent near misses or incidents. Reporting whenever these occur to senior management.
  • Check temperature records are being recorded in the legal diary and report any issues to the Site Manager

Site Standards

  • Ensure cleanliness of all areas of the forecourt and pumps are clean and include towels, gloves and bins (max. half full)
  • Ensure external sale items are stocked and presented to attract maximum custom in line with merchandising plans
  • Maintain and implement merchandising standards including stock levels, presentation and price labelling
  • Conduct stock checks of all products including tobacco, oil, car care and lottery products reporting any variances to senior management
  • Check current fuel volumes, stock at site and delivery plans to meet with target fuel stock holding – ordering as and when necessary
  • Conduct price observations in the local area – reviewing and reporting to management
  • Ensure legal signage in connection with Challenge 25 regulations are in place for lottery and tobacco products and colleagues are keeping record logs up to date
  • Manage the site in the Site Managers absence including making decisions, liaising with and cascading messages from your Area Manager

People & Performance Management

  • Ensure colleagues are promoting and upselling products in line with policies and procedures relating to brand i.e. SPAR
  • Ensure all colleagues are wearing the correct uniforms and name badges and are to a presentable and hygienic standard
  • Ensure colleagues are trained in relation to all policies and procedures and are practising these processes
  • Assist with the creation of colleagues rotas in line with budgeted hours
  • Ensure the prevention of all drive offs and where incidents occur, they are managed in accordance with procedure and reported to the Site Manager
  • Motivate, drive and encourage colleagues to perform to their best, giving additional training/support if necessary
  • Reporting any colleague issues to your manager i.e. sickness, lateness or disciplinary issues
  • Assisting in the recruitment of new colleagues
  • Conduct a pre-shift briefing of activities such as promotions, duties, cleaning reminders, etc.
