Calm Down, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B Are Not Beefing

With the release of Cardi B‘s Invasion of Privacy last week and the arrival of Nicki Minaj‘s “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun-Li” earlier today, women are finally dominating hip-hop โ€” but because the internet is the internet, we couldn’t just have a nice celebratory moment. Fans of both artists have been keen to pit them against each other, and now both MCs have attempted to quash the rumoured bad blood.
ย
In a new Beats 1 interview with Zane Lowe today, Minaj confirmed that a recently leaked snippet of a song referencing the stripper pole wasn’t about Cardi B, but was rather an old clip that had resurfaced from a year and a half ago.
ย
As such, it doesn’t fit into the timeline of last year’s “Motor Sport” drama that Twitter’s been pushing on the pair of rappers.
ย
The Migos track, which features both Cardi B and Minaj, purportedly caused tension between the two female MCs. Cardi claimed that Minaj’s verse changed between the time she first heard it and when the song was released, while Minaj claimed that she wasn’t aware that anyone else was guesting on the track when Quavo first brought it to her (though she did give the final track her stamp of approval before its release).
ย
In a string of since deleted tweets, Minaj insisted that “anything w/ my name on it gets approved by me,” and told the conspiracy theorists to “relax” and “breathe.”
ย
Cardi B reiterated that sentiment.
ย

Nevertheless, fans conjured up further drama, reading into the fact that Cardi and Minaj don’t appear in any scenes together in the “Motor Sport” video โ€” another rumour Minaj shut down in her interview with Lowe today. She simply had a scheduling conflict on the day of the video shoot.
ย
Minaj did admit that she was hurt when Cardi “played the victim” in interviews and didn’t pay her the respect she would have paid mentors and peers when she was just starting out, but she also acknowledged noticing a change in Cardi’s Beats 1 interview with Ebro Darden last week.
ย
In that interview, Cardi laid the drama to rest, explaining that “if you’re not fucking my man or you’re not taking my money from me,” then she doesn’t “give a fuck.”

So, for the time being it doesn’t seem like either MC will be putting a murdered version of the other on the cover of their next release.
