IN JUST two short days, US reality TV star Daniel Maguire became one of the most hated contestants in Bachelor history — but castmate Nina Rolleston has come to his defence, insisting none of us got to see his “beautiful side”.
The Canadian Bachelorette alum entered the Bachelor In Paradise resort on Sunday, and was quickly convinced he’d managed to manipulate three of the women (Nina, along with Laurina Fleure and Keira Maguire) into giving him roses at the ceremony that evening. It would have secured him from elimination, but instead, he was blindsided by a triple-rejection at the last minute.
Viewers were happy to see him go, given that he’d seemingly spent his time in there lying to the girls
The only person who seemed truly upset by his shock exit was Nina, who complained about how much she “missed” him, despite having her Paradise partner Eden Schwencke close by.
However, her romance with Eden ended abruptly during Wednesday night’s explosive episode, when he chose newcomer Elora Murger over her.
In an interview with news.com.au, Nina revealed that she’d gotten in touch with Daniel as soon as she left the show — which was filmed months ago.
“We’ve had months of nearly daily conversations, so I see a very different side of Daniel than probably most people do,” she said, adding that his “villain” persona was all for show.
“He makes a living off these shows, and he knows exactly what needs to be said and done to continue securing more shows in the future. He was literally on there for two days and we’re still talking about him, and that’s exactly what’s required to get on the next one … He knows what he’s doing.”
Following her exit from the show on Tuesday, Nina’s one-time love rival Laurina had finally revealed to news.com.au the “slimy, derogatory” comment Daniel had made to her before she’d rejected him.
“He pulled me aside for a chat and made a really sleazy comment, whispered it under his breath, he goes ‘Your ass looked incredible today when you were sunbathing, your knickers tucked up it … I’m a PT, I know an incredible ass when I see one,’” she recalled.
While Nina admitted that she was “a little offended” when she learned of his sleazy behaviour, she insisted that it’s not what he’s really like.
“I was definitely offended by some of the things he was saying about women and to women, and there were definitely some heated conversations we had [after the show],” she said.
“But we have the kind of relationship where I can call him out on his s**t. I can separate the ‘show pony’ Daniel to the real Daniel.”
So now that they’re both single, are the pair likely to hook up?
“He lives on the other side of the world, so there’s probably zero chance it’ll ever evolve into something else … But when it comes to finding a relationship with someone, there definitely will be someone who he’ll drop his guard for, and they will see that really beautiful side of him.”
Bachelor In Paradise continues Sunday 7.30pm on Ten.
