The skies will light up at 10 p.m. each night, rain or shine. Accompanying music can be heard on LG 103.4 FM and through the festival’s mobile app. The winning team will be announced on August 7.
The three-day event will feature a free family-friendly festival site at the Park Stage at Second Beach. Guests can check out food trucks, sponsor activities, live music, a site-wide liquor license, and more. Keep your eyes peeled for the Red Bull Air Show before the fireworks performances.
Ticketed seats and lounges for optimal views of the fireworks (and dedicated washroom facilities) can be purchased online beginning Friday, April 13. Featured viewing areas include the Keg Lounge, the Concord Lounge at the Inukshuk, and the YVR Observation Deck.
“People from all over come to Vancouver every summer for this spectacular festival,” said Lisa Beare, Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, in a press statement. “The Honda Celebration of Light generates economic activity for the local economy which supports our thriving tourism sector.”
The summertime festival is B.C.’s largest public event and the longest-running offshore fireworks competition in the world, and attracts an average of 500,000 viewers to English Bay each night. Previous competitors include Akariya Fireworks for Japan (who won last year’s competition), and the Walt Disney Company for the United States.
