Learning Support Apprentice – Fosse Way County Primary School – Lincoln LN6

Purpose

To provide support to the Head Teacher, team leaders and teachers across a range of administrative and child centred activities which promote child development and learning
To work with individual children having special or particular needs, in accordance with the child’s EHC plan where appropriate and/or groups of children as directed by the teacher
To work within the school’s after-school childcare provision (Nursery to Year 2)

Main Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to,:
School Related

Act in accordance with school policies and procedures and relevant legislation, particularly in relation to child protection and behaviour management
Assist with the planning and preparation of activities
Assist in the delivery of local and national initiatives eg literacy and numeracy framework
Monitor children’s needs and reporting these to a designated person
Keep records as required by school
Participate in preparation of classroom
Have familiarity with all relevant statements of special educational needs specific to the child
Required to be creative when assisting with planning of activities
Child Related

Promote development and learning (physical, emotional, educational, social)
Foster growth, self-esteem and independence
Observe and record development
Support those with special needs
Comfort sick children and administer basic first aid
Carry out reasonable daily personal care and hygiene duties
Assist with the movement of children in and around the school
Work with small groups or individual children
Act in accordance with school policies and procedures and relevant legislation, particularly in relation to child protection, confidentiality and behaviour management
External Relationships

Contact with parents/carers
Liaise with other professionals under the supervision of the teacher

GCSE: A-C in Maths and English (or equivalent)
Future prospects
Employment and progression within the organisation may be possible upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship
