Job Description:

We are currently recruiting for the position of Head of Category Management – a crucial senior commercial position, reporting to the Retail Sales Director.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the development and implementation of the Category Vision:

  • As part of the annual planning process, design the category vision ensuring it is embedded into and aligned with key customer plans.

  • Identify emerging category trends and growth opportunities

  • Align category objectives in terms of range, space and visibility

  • Support NPD strategy and planning through providing market & shopper information to key stakeholders to deliver strong category rationale for sale

Lead Category Development agenda with key retailers:

  • Build strong relationships with key customers through quarterly meetings on category strategy and performance providing insights into how they can create more value, drive penetration, frequency and spend

  • Be recognised as a Go to Category expert

  • Leverage key relationships to gain influence during key range reviews to increase the share of shelf, distribution and achieve optimum merchandising space

  • Partner closely with National Account Managers (NAMs) during Joint Business Planning meetings to ensure commercial plans are aligned with category objectives

Support the Field Sales Teams to deliver core range objectives:

  • Work closely with the Field Sales team to deliver core objectives

  • Attend channel meetings to present market data quarterly and communicate changes when relevant to key customers planograms to ensure they have all the key insights required to discuss plans with retailers

Support the business with ongoing insights into Category, Competitor and Performance:

  • Ensure monthly suite of reports is meeting requirements of all functions

  • Support deep dives into key business issues as they emerge and make recommendations

  • Manage 3 rd party data providers (Nielsen, Dunnhumby) and creative agencies ensuring we are getting maximum service from the expertise and value from the data

  • Deliver weekly scorecard during the Christmas trading period for Tesco, Super Valu and Centra.

Category Range Review:

  • Conduct full range review for spirits for key customers Tesco, SuperValu, Centra, BWG outlining key skus, NPD and ensure shelf optimisation

  • Develop and complete planograms to required customer specification

In Store Execution:

  • Provide leading edge category management solutions

  • SKU optimisation

  • Development of merchandising strategies

  • Shelf positioning

  • Shopper insights and recommendations

  • Work closely with agencies to ensure cost efficiencies

Category Management Executive:

Lead and coach the Category Management Executive to support the needs of the commercial sales force and their customers

Key Relationships:

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • 5 years of experience within a Senior Category Management Role

  • Graduate, Degree educated (or equivalent).

Key Skill Requirements:

  • Customer relationship management – excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills

  • Experience leading a category management team

  • Experience developing and implementing a Category Strategy & Vision

  • Have developed 360-degree Category Plans from Range Review, to Category Initiative implementation and Evaluation to bring the Vision to life in store

  • Advanced working knowledge level of Spaceman, dunnhumby, Nielsen
