St Vincent’s Health Australia (SVHA) is the nation’s largest Catholic not-for-profit health and aged care provider. Working closely with and reporting to the Group General Manager, Corporate Affairs, the Group Policy and Government Advisor is a member of the SVHA Public Affairs Team. The position is located in the SVHA Group office that leads and supports St Vincent’s Hospitals and Aged Care facilities across NSW, Victoria & Queensland.


The purpose of this position is to:

  • Support SVHA Executive and Divisions/facilities to understand, assess and respond to the policy, funding and regulatory environment in which we operate.

  • Support SVHA’s advocacy agenda to improve the health outcomes for the people we serve, with a particular focus on vulnerable patient groups.

  • Support the organisation’s strategic ambitions for growth and innovation and excellence in our care and research.


The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Produce policy and advocacy documents including: position statements, reports and submissions to government policy processes.

  • Gather views and input from across the organisation in the development of policy and advocacy positions including conducting meetings; facilitating group discussions and sourcing written input.

  • Desktop research on health and aged care policy issues, including analysis of: research reports; government publications; statistical data; administrative datasets.

  • Monitor policy, funding, regulatory and market developments affecting SVHA operations and target populations, and support the GGM to communicate internally.

  • Assess the implications of government policy changes on SVHA’s operations and target populations.

  • Support the GGM Corporate Affairs and other stakeholders to develop and implement plans for strategic engagement with governments – particularly at the Commonwealth level – on issues affecting SVHA business and/or target populations.


To be successful in this role, you will have a proven track record and experience in an advocacy, public policy and/or public affairs role. You will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of government policy processes and the political environment. You must also have knowledge of health, aged care and social policy. Tertiary qualifications within a relevant field are also essential.
