Client Account Collections Specialist (Thousand Oaks, CA)

Virtuoso Medical Management (VMM) is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Client Account Collection Specialist. We are a medical management company specializing in multi-specialty surgery centers and medical clinics. This position would be responsible for handling outside client accounts on multiple EMR systems and providing ongoing billing and collections support to the physicians and their office staff. This is a great opportunity to work with experienced senior management and to understand the day-to-day operations of a medical management company.

This position requires a candidate who is motivated, organized, and a team-player with a positive attitude. This position reports to the Billing Manager in the Central Business Office.


  • Processes all underpayment, short payment, or denial EOBs and all adjustments to patient accounts
  • Files secondary claims for commercial and private insurance
  • Reviews client’s accounts receivable report and collection ledgers for aging to follow-up on all claims
  • Files appeals and conducts follow-up on appeal status
  • Responds to patient inquiries on insurance or payment concerns in a timely manner
  • On a regular basis, meets with revenue cycle management team on status of AR and collection issues
  • Stays current with insurance contract rates and policy changes
  • Assists management with preparation of monthly reports and other tasks as requested
  • Utilizes accurate judgment, especially when handling insurance claims and dealing with client patient accounts
  • Versatile and willing to coordinate with and participate in, when necessary, all other aspects of the Central Business Office
  • Keeps accurate and detailed notes and documentation on account statuses
  • Supports refund requests with documentation required
  • Collects on self-pay accounts by contacting patients
  • Seeks new learning experiences by accepting challenging opportunities and responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as reasonably assigned
  • May require travel to clinical facilities within Southern California as needed; must possess CA driver’s license

Experience and Education:

  • 3+ years of professional medical billing and collections with in-network providers
  • Familiar with appeals processes, under payment review, secondary billing, claims re-openings and 3rd party fee negotiations
  • Knowledge of professional CPT and ICD-9 & 10 codes
  • Understands and interprets patient benefits and verification notes
  • Understands and interprets payer contracts
  • Well-versed in medical terminology
  • Medicare experience required
  • Experience with ASC billing or collections a plus
  • Out-of-network experience a plus
  • High School diploma required

  • Microsoft Suite
  • Practice Management and Billing software experience a plus
  • eClinicalWorks, Dr. Chrono, or Allscripts experience a plus
  • PC computers
